Planned Giving

Planned giving is a growing opportunity to provide financial assistance to the food bank in a manner that provides a regular stream of funding.

Scheduled monthly or annual donations (for example, a three-to-five year commitment) allow improved financial planning so we can in turn continue to improve our services to the community. It may also provide donors with a planning strategy for their charitable giving.

If this approach reflects your kind of financial planning, please contact Sandy Singers, Executive Director, at 613-544-8230.

Food Bank Champion: The Story of Mae Bowles Gibson

Every once in a while we receive a significant gift that is completely unexpected and from someone who has never given to the food bank before. So is the case with Mae Bowles Gibson.

In 2003 the food bank made the important decision to move from the rented location we had outgrown and purchase our new building on Hickson Ave.

We had saved for a substantial down payment but were still carrying a mortgage of about $145,000. Soon after moving we received a call from Mrs. Mae Bowles Gibson’s attorney to inform us that we had been included in her will. Never expecting a particular amount, we were shocked to learn it would be enough to clear the mortgage.

After explaining to the attorney our intention to use the gift to clear the mortgage, she remarked that Mrs. Gibson would have approved of our decision as she hated debt and would have been very pleased.

Mae Bowles Gibson is truly a Food Bank Champion and we are forever grateful to her and her family for this incredibly generous gift.
