Get Food Assistance
How to get help
To receive emergency food assistance, call the office at 613-544-4534 during the following days and times:
Mon-Fri 8:30am-12noon, 1:00pm-4:30pm
Clients may refer themselves and we will issue first-time recipients an appropriate sized hamper immediately, without any qualifying information.
If continued support is required, a short interview will be set up with the client so we may identify other needs, food specifications and determine income and shelter costs.
Discretionary income remaining after these expenses will determine the regularity of continued help (a maximum of 12 times a year, a minimum of 3 times a year)
Recipients are asked to keep us up-to-date if their conditions change (so we can increase the amount of support, for example).
What’s in a Food Hamper?
The food bank offers four sizes of food hampers to accommodate varying sizes of families:
- Single: for a single person
- Small: for a family of two
- Large: for a family of three or more
We also provide an overnight bag of dinner and breakfast to accommodate clients until the client interview takes place (the next morning).
Hampers contain 3 to 5 days worth of non-perishable food, day old baked goods, fresh eggs and milk, and any products such as meat (or other corporate donations), fruits and vegetables, available at that particular time.
Items to meet a baby’s needs are always included (for all sizes of infants) and include diapers and other sanitary items, baby food, and pabulum.
We often have pet food on hand for cats and dogs due to fairly consistent donations from the grocery chains.
